The TSU men’s basketball team has been on a roll and unstoppable against their opponents in SWAC.
These TSU tigers had just secured their 6 consecutive win as they attempt to conquer their 7thwin against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday.
This TSU team has been incredibly remarkable together but they have also had some success individually.
Stand out forward Jeremy Combs has been named SWAC player of the week 3 times in a roll. After many games of scoring his season high, Combs was able to land his career high of 33 points and 17 rebounds in the victory against Jackson State.
“I mean it’s great but all I’m really concerned about is winning, so as long as we’re winning while all that’s going on that’s good”, Combs said as he gives his thoughts on his success.
Jalyn Patterson has also been adding to his team after missing two of the first three games of TSU’s current winning streak and has been out of the starting line-up ever since. Patterson was able to have a breakthrough scoring 17 points and going 4-for-5 from 3-point range against Jackson State.
“He’s selfless guy, works very hard, and you know what you’re going to get every night”, Coach Johnny Jones talks about Patterson.
Even with all the success these tigers still go out on the court with a mind set to fight hard to make sure they get another win.
TSU started out pretty strong getting a 7-0 run leading at the top of the first half with Tyrik Armstrong starting it off with a strong 3-pointer. Combs and Eden Ewing were also able to get some early points on the board as they went to the line after a few fouls from Bluff.
As Jalyn Patterson makes his way back into the starting lineup, he knocks down a strong 3-pointer making the score 20-6 with TSU leading.
TSU continues to dominate in the first half with good ball movement as Combs leads the scoring for TSU and many get plays from others. John Jones was able to get on the board knocking down a 3-pointer and big dunks from both Ewing and Combs with TSU up 20 points.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff was to get a big run at the end of the half with only nine points down from TSU.
After going back forth the score came out to be 43-34 at the end of the half.
Coming out of the half Bluff came out with strong energy scoring the first two points of the half a layup by McDyess, Artavious.
Combs and Ewing had a few fast breaks and good dunks, but Bluff was still able to creep up and get within only 2 points from TSU with score being 54-52 in the middle of the second half.
After tightening up their defense and big plays by Combs’s assist to Edend Ewing and Devico Butler assist to Combs TSU was able to get a strong lead again.
